The Resulting Sculpture

This sculpture is an art that draws inspiration from natural forms as well as the physical and ‘emotional’ properties of the metal itself. It features raw welded, expressive free shapes in steel. Much of these works are inspired by forms in nature as well as the metal's own physical traits.

It was shown at the Westbeth Gallery, 155 Bank Street in New York City. September 27 to October 14, 2007

"In my sculpture I strive for interplay of imagination, emotion, and intellect. I start with the visual idea in a drawing. The trace of the hand is very important to me; it adds a feeling of validity to original artwork. Manufactured items loose the feeling of direct control of their maker. An art based on personal manufacturing must have an emotional component to be real.

As a sculpture grows it become infused with the physical force inherent in the drawing—the steel at this point is sharing this abstract concept with my hands. The give and take of building produces a feeling of communication within the sculptor and the work. When the concept is shared in this way, I can hope that this struggle will produce an opening for artwork that is direct and honest.
